Concept Stage · Hallway, Study & Snug

A design direction for three connected spaces.

Hallway, Study & Snug. Presented to the client as a look & feel book at concept stage, October 2026: the mood, materials and forms each room will be built around, before technical design begins. The imagery is reference material chosen for the direction.

01 The Hallway

A warm, layered welcome.

Antique mirror, soft plaster tones and oiled oak underfoot set an unhurried pace from the front door.

Materials

Oiled oak
Oiled oak
Burl and soft leather
Burl and soft leather

Burl, brass and reflection.

Striped burl console, aged brass sconces and a single piece of art held in the mirrored wall.

Panelled and pared back.

Wall panelling picked out in a soft, warm white gives the hallway its architecture; sculptural wall lights in alabaster and walnut cast a low, even glow.

Floating forms.

Wall hung consoles in burl and veined marble keep the floor clear and the lines soft, with a curved seat in antique tapestry to pause on.

02 The Study

Deep, focused, enveloping.

Umber walls and fumed oak shelving wrap the room; a generous desk and layered task light carry long evenings.

Walnut, wool and bronze.

Figured timber, a wool rug underfoot and bronze fittings. Tactile surfaces that reward a closer look.

Joinery that glows.

Niches lined in stone and textured veneer, lit from within; a reading ledge with its own picture light, and a rolling ladder to reach the highest shelves.

03 The Snug

Soft, low and cocooning.

Linen walls, deep pile wool and low seating in bouclé. A room designed to be sunk into rather than looked at.

Velvet, glow and texture.

Cotton velvet, dimmable warm light and aged brass; every surface soft to the hand.

A bar set into the wall.

A sculpted cabinet in figured walnut with a glossy, softly lit interior, stone lined shelves and brass rails for glassware. Everything closes away when the evening is over.

Marble as the centrepiece.

A boldly veined marble fireplace anchors the room, warmed by burl wood, clay toned walls and a low, sculptural armchair.

Draped and tasselled.

Olive and gold velvets hung full and generous, held back in brass; a curtained banquette for two, and patchwork cushions to pull it all together.
